Two things:
Check inside the radiator neck for any bubbles as 2.8s can crack their cylinder head.
I the engine is cold then drive it and make sure it doesn't cut out after 1/2 mile approx - Front pump seal is the other common fault. and can cause the engine to stop on the first start of the day, once restarted then it is OK for the rest of the day.
The rest is the same as the 2.5 - except you don't have to worry about cam belts.
Other people will have other suggestions. |

Cheers Pete knew I could count on you, bubbles when running? Does that include the expansion tank too? It's on a p plate with 130.000 miles, but no mot, looks clean , but I'll have to be extra careful when I view it tonight, the guy said it's had welding done to front inner arches but as long as it's been done tidy it should be ok |

You would see them in the expansion tank as well - not just little ones.
It's probably OK - They don't all crack their heads - just check it's not overheating as that is a sign. |

Well I got it, it's excellent condition apart from some pretty bad rust on the rear end chassis, hoping it comes up ok when I wire brush it, clean it up and wax oil it, couldn't believe the difference in power, well happy |

I'm glad you got one - they are more powerful than the 2.5, much more usable.
I'm just starting my undersealing - not much to do as I gave it a good going over last year.
You can expect some rust on trucks of this age. |

Been around it today with a wire brush and hammer, everything was covered in wax oil but I've came across a hole in the near side rear chassis rail, can it be welded, what's your thoughts? I've tried to upload pic but for some reason I can't, the hole is the size of a 10p coin |

Welding shouldn't be any problem. |

Also there's one or two body mounts that are a bit suspect, do you know if you can get these or will they have to be it Off a scrap vehicle ? |

They should be available somewhere - the main dealer may have them.
It may be possible to use them from a 2 inch body lift kit as the 2.8 has a 42mm lift on the body - that's just a guess though. |

After more poking around last night I noticed one of the rear outriggers is badly corroded, it's got some rust holes after tapping and wire brushing, just bought a might, to sort out the arches etc, but I'm starting to think now that I've bought a Rotter, shame really as it's a stunning looking example, body work and paint are mint, any thoughts as what to do about the outriggers? |

They are easy enough to make up out of sheet steel then remove the old ones and weld on the replacements. |

That's a great idea Pete, why didn't I think of that, I'll also make some of the small body mounts up too, would the body have to be lifted to replace them? |
