Hi all,

I’ve recently bought a 1994 2.8 LWB Pajero (yes I’ve already fallen in love...) and on the whole all is well - just a few niggles here and there.

Current problem I’m facing is with the air con - hoping it just needs a re-gas so took it down to Halfords earlier today but they (nor I) could find the low side air con port.

I’ve done a lot of googling and trawling this site and have read that you can see it by looking down near the batteries. Also read  that it’s accessible from under a flap in the n/s/f wheel arch.

Still can’t see it!

Am I being completely hopeless? Can anyone give more specific directions please?

If possible photos would be a massive help!

Thanks in advance

Hello

It is where you say. I will see if I can get a photo in the morning.

I had the same problem with Halfords.  They said they could fill it from the high side anyway, I don't know if that is right or not as I showed them where the low side was. From memory it is just inside the rubber flap almost in your face.

Thanks emax,

I’m certain I’m just being useless but can’t see the wood for the trees as it were...

If you could grab a photo I’d really appreciate it!

Thanks

if your trying to get it filled buy using one of those canister style refill kits don,t bother,my mate did his and screwed the a/c system up cost more to put right than what it would have cost to get a proper air con regass... Question

It's less than £40 to have it done properly round here - I can't understand why people would bother with a DIY kit.

I'm not planning to do it myself - I know that spells more trouble than its worth!

Found the port that emax pointed out and took it down to Halfords again - they were completely clueless!

We took the hex off the port which was 17mm and it was some weird adaptor but he was none the wiser.

Looks like I'm just going to have to melt for now. That being said, heading to the in-laws tomorrow and they have a Pajero so will compare mine with theirs - will possibly call to a place they've used for air con in the past too.

Thanks guys - I'll keep you posted.

it,s probably the really older type gas in it where as the ports will need to be changed so the machine can fit onto them,my old 1992 2.5 had to have the ports changed but all my other pajero,s 96 onwards have been fine Wink

Had mine done yesterday and she is lovely now.

Just some points i came across.

My magnetic clutch wasnt engaging before the refill so went to test it by running 12v to it but the connector looks like it is under the vac pump and couldnt get tonit without removing. Also my aircon idle up wasnt working before the refill.

Guy came to the house and refilled via the hi port. And voila magnetic clutch kicked in and also the aircon ifle up works. Pleased as punch with her now.

Also on the airfilter housing is a metal plate mostly written in heathen jibber jabber but it does tell what type of gas is in the system

Hope this helps

..., and remember a lot of places will fill the system only to UK spec Shogun capacity, if you have a LWB Pajero with rear air its around the 1050 gram capacity, I think the Shogun is 650 grams. So although basically it will work it won't be as it should.

Here's a chart, page 47 .
