|
|
Hi
I have a 2004 Shogun Pinin Elegance, 1.8 petrol, with 235/50/R18 low profile tyres. I want to fit some AT tyres but realise that because of the lack of suspension clearance that I will need to get new wheels to accommodate a high profile tyre. Can anyone advise as to the wheel size / tyre combination? This will be for on road use in harsh conditions but not hard off road use.
TIA |

There's not a lot of Pinin owners on here but I will try to help
The first thing is to fit smaller diameter wheels and then fit tyres that bring the overall diameter back to what you have got at the moment. That will negate the problem of the diameter of the wheel/tyre being too big.
You also have to take into account two other things:
(1) the width of the rim needs to be chosen to make sure the inside of the tyre doesn't rub on the chassis / inner wings or to make sure that the outside of the tyre doesn't protrude beyond the wheel arches.
(2) the offset of the rim needs to be suitable - and similar to the offset of your existing rims - otherwise you change the turning radius of the wheel which may mean it catches on the bodywork.
And remember - make sure any smaller diameter wheels will fit over the brake calipers.
I cheated with mine and went to a local friendly 4x4 tyre fitter who had enough experience to know what would fit mine (I went from 15" to 16" wheels and wider tyres) .... but he did bring an angle grinder out with the first wheel he was going to fit!, he didn't need to use it though. |

This might be useful to you: https://www.wheel-size.com/
Look up Mitsubishi Pinin and you'll see that 6J x 16 ET46 wheels can be fitted with 215/65 R16 tyres. It also gives you the bolt pattern and other info.
Now have a look for all-terrain (AT) tyres in that size, and you'll see there's a fairly big choice. Wheels may be more difficult, but it's a fairly common Japanese fitment so you should be able to find a set.
Might give you a bigger choice than going to a tyre fitter. |
