I thought that removing / modifying a cat that was fitted as standard is now a MOT major fault and will cause the vehicle to fail.

Have a read of THIS - it says:

Quote:

Defect                                                                                           Category

a. Emission control equipment fitted by the manufacturer:                 Major
missing, obviously modified or obviously defective.

Petes right any sort of tampering with a catalytic converter or dpf will land you in big trouble not only is it an mot failure but will also void your insurance..you could always fit a sports cat instead which will allow the exhaust gasses flow better the downside is come mot time it may or may not pass the emisions test so keep hold of your old one just in case.

i fitted a magnflow stainless sports cat to mine a long while ago cost about £80 but it,s universal so had to take it to an exhaust place who added stainless pipe and flanges so it could be fitted total cost was around £150 that included the price of the cat Wink
