1995 Mitsubishi Montero 3.0 gasoline, in Costa Rica. driving down the road, the engine suddenly stopped running. tried to restart and it cranks odd, like it's misfiring really bad. happened similar before and it was the plug from the ignition coil that worked loose, snapped it back together and it was fine. now it's even worse this time, it won't stay running at all, when it does kind of run for maybe 5 or so seconds, it then dies. sometimes it won't even crank. checked all the plugins I could see on the engine and by the intake and air, they are falling apart due to age and being along the coast in Costa Rica, just disintegrating, but that's the norm for here. even so, all the wires seem to be making a connection, I've taped them or secured them as much as possible but no change.
at a loss here. just had the heads resurfaced and the camshaft bearings replaced plus some other things and now it won't even run. It really seems to be misfiring related. Any thoughts or suggestions???
thanks. |

Quote ............ sometimes it won't even crank.
Check the earth/neutral cable from the battery to the body and to the crankcase. If you have a bad/dirty connection then that will create the non firing, and the intermittent cranking. |

found the problem. the crankshaft position sensor fell apart and is in pieces. did self diagnostic hack and got code 41, checked it and there it was. old car, old parts, and being in Costa Rica just wears on plastic pieces like crazy. now I get the joy of trying to find one...
there are some small pieces that broke off and fell down inside where the cover is. will that be a problem. really small, plastic.. |
