I thought I would add this as I found no topics that helped.

I wired up the tail lights and turn signals on my shogun last weekend.
I found one of the tail light filaments was blown so I bought and fitted 2 LED lamps.

All was great and bright until yesterday, while leaving the motorway the dashboard bonged and the ABS and stability control lamps came on. Driving home the lamps were ok and performance ok.

I had also had new tyres fitted last Monday.

I searched for enlightenment but found nothing except for a guy who had the same when his tail light fuse had blown.

My ABS and stability control didn’t work. I hooked up my laptop to the OBD and found no DTCs.

I thought I would try fitting normal filament lamps so I drove to halfords today and my car literally limped there.

I fitted the new bulbs ignition on, still the ABS and stability control lamps. Put my foot on the brakes and the lamps went off. Car drove home fine.

Unbelievable!

Hope this helps someone

Did you have the right sort of leds as some don't work. It seems strange that they worked though mine didn't! But the abs and stability light could be an indication to show you its reading a blown bulb as the led has far lower resistance to a normal halogen bulb thus showing a fault. Saying all this yours is a mk4 im only used to a MK2/3. The other thing i don't get is why your truck went into limp mode, i had both lights on mine and it was caused by a switch on the gearbox becoming disconnected.
But glad you got it sorted

evidently i did not have the right kind of LED lamps. i drove my car about 40 miles before the error came up on the stability control and ABS lamps and another 40 or so miles before the car started to 'Limp'

i dont think it was a genuine limp mode just cutting power as the stabilty control does.

and changing the bulbs has set things back to normal.

i may fit some resistors accross the stop lamp circuit, or even find some correct bulbs with resistors already fitted. the filament lamps are quite dull by comparison.

the moral of the story is, 'if it aint broke, dont fix it' i just liked the idea of all of the light clusters working

it also annoyed me a bit that the OBD2 diagnostic didnt show the fault. i believe there is a stop lamp faut code.

it could have been the software and blue tooth device i was using.
