Hey Guys,

My first post so here we go, its a bit of a biggie so hope someone might be able to point me in the right direction, albeit on a tow truck sadly!

I’ve a 99’ plate V reg Shogun Mk2 2.8 Turbo diesel.

It’s a monster and I love it however I need a new timing chain kit to be fitted, therefore head off, front cover, etc etc.

I removed the rocker cover earlier and to my horror the timing chain Guide Plate is floating around in mid air, I was even scared to even start it to move it 20 foot after diagnosing the fault as fear of it going completely and all hell breaking loose, I count myself very lucky its as it is at present!

I used to be in the trade however that was now over 20 years ago, I can handle water pumps etc but pulling the head off on the front drive and all else that goes with it might be a job to far.

My problem is I know what can go wrong, shearing manifold studs etc and with no heat at my disposable along with a ramp etc, you can see where I am coming from therefore might anyone know of a super specialist whom pulls these apart all the time and therefore can do it for a reasonable rate please?

Thanks very much guys!

Cheer
s,

Ambush

I've never had to replace the timing chain, but I know that there's no need to remove the head.    There are split link chains available where you don't even need to remove the timing cover - you just attach the new chain to the old one and wind it through.  These guys sell and fit them, but there will be others too:

There used to be a firm on the South Coast named Mitziheads who would have done the job for you, but their website is down and they may not still be in business.

Hey Simon,

Thanks for your reply and advice mate however its the timing chain Guide Plate that is floating around in mid air and in order to replace that you need to at least remove the front end Sad

Good bit of info on the bottom of your screen shot mind, the tensioner is indeed fully out therefore the chain worn and rubbed so much on the chain guide plate is failed hence the noise and floating around!

I'll try the phone number also.....

Mark, the legend on here has been great in helping with advice also....

If anyone has any other pointers with regards to someone local to me then please do let me know!

Thanks guys,

Ambush

Well you mentioned...There used to be a firm on the South Coast named Mitziheads who would have done the job for you, but their website is down and they may not still be in business.

Having googled and searched I then came across Roland AKA MitziHeads via George at the Paj shop via your screen shot and MH idea, he put me onto Roland and boom Roland sorted it for me yesterday!

Happy Days and saved at least £600!!!

Excellent! How strange that Roland has let his website go.  He doesn't have any products on Ebay either. Maybe there aren't enough 2.8 engines in need of new heads or timing chains any more.

Glad you got such a good result.  Very Happy

I did speak to him about his website and he said "oh yes I need to sort that"!

Not sure about the eBay side of things....

He seems very busy and he's not limited to 2.8s, hopefully my recommendation will drum him up some new leads as he travels all over the country and folk even travel from North Scotland to him!

Thanks once again and its so good to be back on the road!!!

As a matter of interest did the timing cover need to come off or could he get to what he needed without removing it?

Nope, the lot had to come off!

Fan, alternator, bottom pulley, water pump, front timing chain cover, two head bolts from above, all the bolts, 5 sump bolts, lever cover off gently and he managed not to harm the head gasket, fitted the kit and the put back together again, I drained the water and only lost 2 litres, it started on the button, so g_d damm happy!
