Welcome to the forum. I hope you get the 4WD issues sorted easily. Plenty of guidance on here if you need it.

Another newbie here. Are the 4WD a common issue of mk3 btw?

The shift mechanism is more complex on the Mk3. It's electronically controlled via actuators and switches rather than a mechanical linkage.  More complexity usually brings more problems.

Have a search on this forum and you'll find out more.

Now im using it more often, it seems to be easier to go into 4wd/2wd.
When it went in to 4wd i left it in for about 3 weeks, but i used tesco fuel the other day, (for the first time in 5+ years, and my fuel economy was awful, so put it in 2wd hoping to make it a bit better. Its still slow going in but if i keep it in drive and roll forward and then go in reverse it goes in straight away. But while sitting at lights/in traffic ive been pooping it in and out of 4wd, and it does seem to be getting quicker.
