The shift mechanism is more complex on the Mk3. It's electronically controlled via actuators and switches rather than a mechanical linkage. More complexity usually brings more problems.

It,s much like the mk2 system it needs to be used ..but yer it,s a bit more complex .On a side note have you checked out underneath for the normal rust issues . |

Now im using it more often, it seems to be easier to go into 4wd/2wd.
When it went in to 4wd i left it in for about 3 weeks, but i used tesco fuel the other day, (for the first time in 5+ years, and my fuel economy was awful, so put it in 2wd hoping to make it a bit better. Its still slow going in but if i keep it in drive and roll forward and then go in reverse it goes in straight away. But while sitting at lights/in traffic ive been pooping it in and out of 4wd, and it does seem to be getting quicker. |
