Hi all,

I am in the process of searching for this issue, but in the meantime....

I have no speedo and I can't get top gear on my Paj Mk2 auto. I had the instrument pod out and checked the connectors. Now I want to check the speed sensor connections, but I am not sure if the brown small end connector comes off or the bigger black connector with a spring wire around it. I have tried twice to try and remove them but failed and don't want to break it.

So which and how do I get this connector off to check?

Cheers,
Steve

No Speedo will mean you won't get overdrive.

Three possibilities - Speedo broken, sender broken or bad connection between sender and Speedo.

If you have an oscilloscope then it is possible to check if the Speedo is getting a signal.

Found this, which looks like there's a standard electrical connector attached to the speed sensor. I'd expect there to be a tab that you push to release the connector, which I've highlighted.

Pull off the plug, spray the male and female connectors with contact cleaner, test drive to see if all is now working.

I recently bought a Mk2 which turned out to have the same issue (no speedo & OD). I followed the usual advice, changed the temp sensor, new speedo sender fitted, all to no avail. I decided to pull the speedo driven gear out of the transfer box rear cover and found this:

Turned out the previous owner (not a "Paj Owner", just some knob) had been running the transfer case without oil and the gear had melted to nothing. Now awaiting the arrival of a replacement transfer box Sad

I hope your problem is a little less expensive to remedy.

Good luck
