Hi,

I am experiencing a slight "clunk" from the back of the car when depressing the brake pedal.
It only occurs when the pedal is first depressed.
The car will be going in for service in a week or so and I would like to know what the cause of this clunk is before it goes in so that they can attend to it.
Any ideas anyone?

You said yours does it when braking. Does it do it as much if braking going uphill?

I don't think anyone can answer this without looking at the car. Likely to be a suspension bush.

It is also doing this when accelerating.( jerkily )
Something must be loose.
does not seem any different going uphill or downhill.

Wasn’t the trailing arm bushes. Although the clunk isn’t as loud now.

I took the car in for a major service today with instructions to invetigate the "clunk"
I will report back when I get the car back and what they have found/done

I had a further investigation this week with my cousin helping. I was sure the sound was coming from behind the front seats but being outside the car and the noise was coming from behind the near side front wheel. Now suspecting a bush or possible engine mount.

Not sure how you got but I investigated mine today removed all the under protection but couldn’t find anything with any play, the droplinks were a bit too free oil movement but nothing to worry about.
I tried to get the wife to drive the car towards me and slam the brakes whilst I lad on the floor t identify the noise. She couldn’t do it so I jumped in to show her how to be it to make the clump noise but I couldn’t.
I took it for a drive without the under protection on and it didn’t make the clunking noise. When I got back I fitted the front and engine covers and went for another test drive, still silent. I fitted a rubber door edge protector to the leading edge of the transmission cover were it need the cross member and refitted this after greasing the front prop. Another, longer test drive and it’s still silent. Hopefully this it resolved but I’ll post again next month to let you know either way.

at my service they found (very) slight play in rear trailing arm bushes.

These have been replaced and the "clunk" has disappeared.....almost.

I sauspect there might also be a little play in the UV joints. will look there at next service.

Mine has remained quiet since putting a rubber buffer on the transmission undertray.
