Hi, I have a mitsubishi challenger 2.8td 1997 import. Im asking about the timing. I understand that the bottom pulley should have a notch to line up with the 0 on the outer casing to put pistons at top dead centre. I also understand all the other marks on the other pulleys should all line up together and the timing chain is easy, as 1 black link and 2 black links linoe up with dots. I there any other way to get the piston at top dead centre? because the bottom pulley has no notch...I really dont want to put this car back together to find its out by a tooth. Thank you

Is the engine currently stripped or built up?

I think I remember reading that if you remove the #1 glow plug you can just about get a small diameter rod through the pre-combustion chamber to make contact with the piston top.  The height of the rod should tell you when #1 is at TDC. The holes don't line up, so it won't be easy....
