Hello folks

I'm hoping one of you geniuses can help me, I have a swb shogun 2001, when turning at lowish speeds (below 30) it makes a thump thump noise which seems to he allied to wheel geometry, the rear wheel geometry was well out. Taking some lock off when you are turning seems to ease it, it also only does it once the vehicle is thoroughly warmed up.

As you come up to a junction and brake you can get a more gentle thump thump too.

I'm taking it to africa in October and the local garage are struggling to find the answer, I feels like its binding on the rear wheels somehow when you turn, like they are scrabbling.

Any suggestions gratefully received!

Would a diff problem cause that, or even a propshaft being loaded up when turning?

Thanks all

Dan

Stupid as it sounds , check the transmission cover. Mine made a thumping noise when turning with lots of lock on the steering. Happened after I had new tyres fitted. Idiots has tried to jack the vehicle up under the transmission cover distorting it and it caught on the tyres.
