Went to start my MK 3 3.5 GDI today after leaving standing for a couple of weeks, started ok then after a couple of minutes there was a squealing noise from the fan belt.  On close inspection I can see that the belt was extremely hot and appears to be melting where it makes contact with the alternator pulley.

I suspect the alternator pulley has partially seized or one of the other followers has seized.

How do I remove the belt, I can't see any adjustment point.....would say only had a brief look as it's chucking it down. Looks like a good job for the weekend.  Any advice would be great

Curiosity was killing me, large brolly and trusty torch and I've found the auto belt tensioner, half inch square drive in the hole me thinks and rotate clockwise and that should remove tension.

Seems straight forward now but it can wait until the rain stops before I find out which of the pulleys has seized.
