Hi,

So, just a few weeks before I planned to sell the trusty steed (a 2000 3.2 DiD Auto V78 4M41 LWB), which was only used to tow our caravan which we no longer have, she's decided not to start.  Battery fine, cranks over fine, but won't fire Sad

Have spent the morning checking the glow plugs (all ok), glow plug relay (ok).   However, I have found that there is no 12v signal to the glow plug relay during starting.  I also noticed that the dashboard 'pre-heat' (coil) indicator no longer lights up .. but that could be the bulb, I guess.

I've tried a separate 12v supply to the relay (which clicks) and I then measure ~12V on the glow plugs bus-bar, but even then, still not possible to start up.

Looking at the circuit diags, it seems the 12V signal to the glow plug relay comes directly from the main ECU (RY wire), so now I'm wondering if the ECU is faulty.

However, before I start investigating that further, I'm wondering if there are other sensors (ie. engine temp.) which may be faulty and as such, may be preventing the ECU from running the correct start-up procedure.

I'm also puzzled as to why, when the glow plug relay is providing 12V to the glow plugs bar, that I can't start the engine ?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreicated.

TIA ....

Check engine coolant temperature sensor this will have an effect on the glow plug relay. If it thinks its up to temperature then the glow wont come on. Or worse still in my case its was a fried ecu.
