found round flat electrical object hanging under engine 4d56

While replacing the alt. I removed the rock guard under engine and to my surprise I found a round flat electrical plastic object with one wire lead coming out of it hanging over the front axle. I see that the object wire leads back toward the transmission. I have been under the truck many times but have never seen this. It is about the diameter of a small coffee cup. Can it be some kind of sensor that has fallen off?
