|
|
I have had the dreaded centre flashing light and changed the gear box switches but that didn’t work, now the gearbox won’t change up into 5th automatically or with super select.
Could dropping the gearbox have damaged the cables? AFT colour is black not red.
Any advise.? |

I think you know what to do first.
Change the ATF first and see if that sorts it. There is no point trying to sort anything else until you have good. ATF in it.
The ATF has to be SPIII specification - don't use Dexron in these boxes. |

Thanks for the reply, yes changing the ATF was my next move but wanted a second voice. Do you think dropping the box could have damaged or misaligned the shifting cables. This happened after I changed the 5 transfer case switches. Finally is there a a filter that needs to be changed or is it a simple drain and refill. I was planning on using Millers SPIII? |

I would just change the ATF to start with - see if it makes any difference.
Millermatic SPIII is OK.
The link explains how to do the change - not quite as simple of removing the drain plug though. |

Hey Pete, managed to change 5l of the ATF, rear coupling from cooler was seized up so was worried in would shear off if forced. Still no 5th gear after atf change. I checked all electrical connector to gearbox and transfer case and don’t see any problems.
Any ideas? |

I'm not very familiar with the 3.2 - mine have always been MkIIs which were three speed boxes.
On the three speed box there was an "overdrive" button on the side of the selector lever that had to be engaged. Also there was an A/T switch that controlled the gearbox and affected the selection of "top" gear.
I don't know if yours has either the button or the switch - if it has then check that your problem isn't something as simple as either of them has been accidentally moved to a different position.
If that doesn't help then someone with more experience of your model will hopefully give you an answer.
Good luck. |

Thanks for the reply. It doesn’t have an overdrive button it’s just 1st to 5th. I am thinking I may have damaged a wire when replacing the transfer case switches. I think the speed sensor controls the shift up to 5th.
Hopefully a MKlll specialist has some ideas. |

Yes. I am waiting till the summer to fix it. Basically there are 5 transfer case switches on the transfer case which communicate to the transfer ecu what position the transfer case is in. So High or Low 4 wheel drive or 2 wheel. If one of the switches fail then you will have a flashing light on your super select. Mine is is 2h but the tender case ecu thinks it’s in Low range that’s why it won’t engage 5th gear. There could be other factors like transfer case speed sensor or bad ATF but like I said summer will be when I tackle. |
