Hi, been doing oil changes on my 08 3.2 for years and my 98 2.8 both big oil filters. Ordered an oil filter online for the 3.2, its alot smaller, the size of a car oil filter. Its bosch and when I Google it, it does come back as the right one for my 3.2. Just not sure if I want to use it. Has anybody experienced this before?

I contacted the seller and they said there are 2 options for 3.2. Not convinced so just going to send it back and buy the larger filter that I'm used to. Cheers for replying.

Its all down to sludge capacity and filtration capacity.

In simple terms the filter contains a convoluted paper element and this is the filtering medium, oil passes through and sludge drops off into basically a sump.

Most EU models are road biased and do not operate off road and they keep the filtration medium the same and make the slugde capacity smaller, this saves the manufacturer on steel for the housing and many aftermarket manufacturers are doing this.

Oil filters have a lifecycle and this catches many people out as some are as little as 6000 miles and a vehicle requires an oil change every 12,000 miles, some have 8000 or 10,000 mile lifecycles and some as high as 20,000 miles.
These lifecycles are critical as you can end up with a vehicle doing 12.000 miles per annum with a filter with a lifecycle of 6 or 8000 miles meaning its no good for your engine and can do it a lot of expensive damage; you can find this information on the filter manufacturers website technical section.
