Good afternoon all

I wonder if anyone can help with this matter please? I have a year 2000 Portuguese-registered Sport Wagon which (due to her tender age!  Rolling Eyes) my wife is struggling to climb into! So, I’m thinking of tying to source some side steps so that there’s some assistance for her. However, perhaps because it’s now an older vehicle, I can’t find anything when I search for a set of steps specifically to fit that model. So, I wondered if anybody knew whether any later Pajero models - or even the L200, of which there are many in Portugal - would have suitable bars  that would easily fit please? I’d like a nice pair so am quite prepared to spend some money on a suitable set.

Thanks in anticipation 👍🙂

What is the exact model? This can usually be found on a plate attached to the underside of the hood (bonnet) near the hinges or elsewhere in the engine bay. With that information you can quickly identify part numbers via this site (which I've used extensively and find extremely useful for understanding the vehicle):

Thanks for your reply iam_TJ. My vehicle details from that plate are as follows:

MODEL. K94WNUFL6

I have used Megazip in the past to order parts from, and I agree that their site has useful information for establishing OEM part numbers. Most Pajero Sport models in Portugal come equipped with alloy wheels and a body kit, including integrated side steps. However, my car is one of the rare models that has no body kit at all and steel wheels. So, I’m looking for stand-alone side steps. I suppose I could check out the OEM part numbers from the models that DO have the side steps and see if an internet search turns up any for sale? Apart from that, I reckon that my particular model of Pajero is now of an age whereby nobody is still making steps for it, because of insufficient potential market. I’ve seen a few second-hand pairs for sale on the likes of eBay, but they seem to ask crazy money for rusty old bits of metal! I want the steps to have good form as well as function, as it’s  booked into a body shop this month for a complete respray.

And on that note, here’s some information that might be useful to share on this forum. I thought that, as the car is having new paint, it would be nice to source replacements for all of the original decals that the car had affixed when new. I gathered their part numbers from Megazip and discovered that they could supply all of the decals with the exception of the model’s “GLX” decal from the rear panel...but they were expensive. Nowhere could I find this one missing decal until, by chance, via a local trading website in Portugal, I found a guy here who has a business specialising in high quality vehicle decal replacements. And he was able to supply me with a complete set of quality replica decals - in a choice of colours if wanted - for the princely sum of €30 + P&P! They are original size, style and colour, and he seems to either stock or be able to manufacture any Mitsubishi decals, and even others to customer choice. He even makes custom-made floor mats at a great price. Plus, he didn’t originally know that I was living in Portugal so was happy to post them to the U.K. His website is as follows:

www.tiaman.pt.

Hope this information might be of help to anybody having trouble sourcing old model decals.

I use the site to identify the reference numbers of the part I'm interested in and related parts that may be required when adding/replacing the primary part. Then I do lateral searches in search engines and other services for equivalents or clues as to compatible parts or other models that use the same parts. Sometimes the diagrams help identify compatible/equivalent parts even when part numbers differ. (e.g my recent investigation to get stainless steel scuff plates for a 2003 mark 3 that look identical to those from a 2017 SG5)

For yours it seems like either of:

Step plate (W/OVERFENDER..PARTITION STEP COVER) or Step plate (W/O OVER FENDER)

The fact that those parts diagrams claim to be for vehicles 1998 up to 2009 would make me hopeful you'd still be able to find parts - since you do not need to limit your search to 2000-year vehicles.

One important benefit of using those parts diagrams is, for me, learning what the parts are 'officially' called which really does help in discovering them from obscure sources.

After quite a bit of researching on the internet, I’m a little closer to sourcing some side steps...hopefully!

Using Megazip and its excellent parts catalogue, I ascertained the OEM part numbers for my model’s correct side steps. But the two part numbers (left and right step) were only shown for two model numbers: my European Sport Wagon model and another for the Guatemalan market! Megazip appears to have both steps available, but at €299 per step + shipping from Japan + probable import duty, this appears prohibitive.

So, after unsuccessfully searching with the part numbers across the internet, I’ve chanced upon a Polish manufacturer of steps, bull bars, etc., by the name of Solaristuning, that appears to be able to supply and ship a pair of stainless steel side steps for a little over €300 - so about half of what Megazip is charging. They look good, so as long as they can confirm that they fit my car, I’ll order a set.
I’ll keep you posted as to Howe this goes.

It might be worth measuring the distances between the fixing points on your vehicle and asking the supplier to confirm those match the part they sell. Bonus points if there are pre-threaded captive nuts on the vehicle and you can determine the thread size and pitch !

Since there are only a few aftermarket side steps or nerf bars available for our Pajeros, I am curious if anyone has tried to make custom steps.

Just thought that I would update the group on my Pajero Sport side steps. I bought the ones that I previously mentioned from a Polish manufacturer. They advertise on eBay as “solaristuning”

I have to say that I was a little concerned ordering from them as their feedback wasn’t that high and there were a few complaining customers (I always pay for online purchases with a credit card or PayPal, for the consumer protection if things don’t work out). However, speaking as I find, all of my dealings with the company were very good; communications, help and advice, delivery very time, and product quality. I am very pleased with the look and build quality of the steps - they’re the checkerplate and tube design as shown on a blue Pajero Sport in their listings.

However, a word of warning buying them from inside the UK. Post-Brexit, ordering anything from Europe - or the rest of the world for that matter - attracts import duties and fees, so be sure to research this and factor this in to your budget. Some reviewers were unhappy with the company for “hidden” fees, but you have to blame the politicians for not working out a deal to prevent this.

And finally, I bought a front bull bar for the car from “motor-chrome-world” - also on eBay - for £190 with free postage! Also good quality and easy to fit! So now I’m hoping that with the bull bar, side steps and towbar, my newly-resprayed bodywork is protected from the careless carpark muppets who move amongst us!  Crying or Very sad
