|
|
I'm looking for help advice on starting my pajero. Before I tear out the little hair I have left.
bought a 1988 2.5td a few weeks ago. But having great difficulty with cold start 1st thing in the morning n it's not cold here.
It has a manual glow plug heater... button on dash. Previous owner said needed about 6 sec before start.
Started some days fine but other times it struggled.
Good days heat plugs 6s. 1st Turn starts n runs grand.
Once warm starts all day no problem
Bad days... very hard to start..
Heat plugs then turn over and no start... about every 2nd morning. Try heat a little longer but no joy. Turn over for 10s to 15s no go. Turn over pumping accelerator n eventually catches. Need to keep cranking until it caught fully. Lots of white smoke.
Took out glow plugs. 3x ngk 6.2v all seemed to be shot..hi ohms. One was 12v ngk Y115T1. 0.7ohm.
I have replaced glow plugs with denso dg-198.
Seemed to be fine but now back to difficult started.
Checked GP resistance. All 0.6ohm. Haven't taken them out to bench test... need long socket.
Any thoughts or suggestions 🤔 really appreciated |

First thing I'd do is replace the glo-plugs, with good quality ones, I personally recommend NGK's from experience they are very good quality, failing that as they are a tad expensive 'Blueprint' are a decent brand too.
As you don't know how old the plugs are you have in there now.
Good luck, please post any findings. 😉 |

To me it sounds more of a fueling issue at start or when it's left for a long time with out starting or running, have you tried pumping the primer button 1st thing to see if air in system?
I had similar with my shogun after someone changed the fuel filter, turned out the original had an outer seal but the new one had an inner seal too so they fitted it like it, I was getting air in system, cranking for a while in mornings and when it finally fired got loads of smoke,
Once it had run it was fine all day,
Took the inner seal off the filter and was perfect. |

Thanks guys. Appreciate the help.
Problem seems to be solved after many starting attempts.
Tried pumping filter and booster pack on battery. Worked most of the time.
Increased the time for push button to glow plugs to 10 seconds and has started no problems for last couple of weeks.
Have 12v denso glow plugs fitted and cleaned up all connections to plugs.
Fingers crossed will still behave when weather gets cold.
PS what model of ngk plugs are recommended for a manual push button. 6v or 12v |
