Please assist if possible:
My 1996 2.8TDI Pajero Gen 2's speedometer suddenly decided to stop working. Along with that, the A/T Box only goes through the 1st three gears, and the A/T light flashes obscene messages.
The vehicle can idle for 15 minutes or longer, and no flashing A/T light.
If you drive it, after +/- 1km, the flashing starts.
After doing a Diagnostic test, it said
38 Speed Sensor
11 TPS
I have replaced the speed sensor - No change
I have checked continuity on wire from speed sensor to dash - All OK
If anyone has some ideas, I would be very grateful. |

Use the search facility on here to search for 'Speedometer'. There are lots of posts that might point you in the right direction - for example
http://www.pocuk.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=128193&sid=a9f4905bef7d682232b72d14a449643a
The overdrive unit needs a speed input, which I seem to remember comes from the instrument cluster rather than direct from the gearbox (but I could easily be wrong).
The 'TPS' is the Throttle Position Sensor, which is a potentiometer on top of the fuel pump. Again, worth doing a search on here.
If you can get hold of a workshop manual and wiring diagram, that would probably help you.
But definitely worth spending a few hours searching on here. There's a great deal of information relating to Shoguns/Pajeros of the same generation as yours.
Such a shame that this forum has now gone to the dogs. A few years ago you would have got instant and knowledgeable responses to your post. |

Thank you Lou.
I will search again, and try to find out more around your cluster note.
Really appreciate your reply.
This is seriously frustrating me. |

Hi
Just some feedback.
Finally sorted, problem lay in the Cluster that did not allow the signal to get through.
Paj running, but no money left for juice. |
