xenon Headlamp Control Unit

Hello everyone, I have a 2012 SG3 Shogun V98W and the headlights stopped working. First thing I changed were the bulbs, but that didn't fix it. I put the car into a garage and was told that it was the Xenon Headlamp Control Unit which costs a small fortune for my model and I would have to purchase a driver side unit and a passenger side unit.
I looked online to try and find a cheaper one and after ploughing through various part websites I think I have the correct part number for the Control Unit, however. The control unit (a small rectangular box with connections) looks exactly the same when I put in the two part numbers, can the control unit be used on either side of the vehicle?

I think the part that the garage gave me was for the complete headlamp unit, which is okay (i.e not broken/clear) so I only require the small control unit which I can find various versions online for a lot cheaper, but can I buy two of the same unit?
