Hello all, long time viewer first time poster here at POCUK. Greetings from New Zealand.

My 1990 mk1 Pajero Exceed goldie (2.5l 4D56T) has developed a bad rust problem on the left rail of the ladder chassis.

5 years ago this problem first reared its head being a small patch of rust. At the time it was dealt with by skimming/wire brushing the rust out, rust penetrator then getting sheet metal cut and welded to form a reinforced patch over that section of the chassis. Then undersealed. Problem with the cancer that rust is I was just buying time at best.

Todays issue is that the rust from that area has come back in force and has been eating away at that chassis section from the inside out whilst spreading outside from the patched area.
I'm hoping that some of you knowledgeable folk would be able to give me some advice and contacts regarding this repair.

I'm currently in the process of doing my homework to figure what my options are and the best way to go about it.
Over the last couple o' weeks I've got in touch with a few chassis repair specialists and both have said the better route to go is finding a new chassis and lifting the body onto a new one as the current chassis is too rotten and expensive to rebuild.

Thing is these vehicles, once common are now very scarce on NZ roads. I'm sure chassis' are out there but few and far between.

A couple questions,

Could the Mk1 LWB 2.5TD (4D56) body work on a MK1 LWB V6 Chassis?

Could the Mk1 LWB 2.5TD (4D56) body work on a MK2 LWB Chassis at all?

Much appreciate your time

P.S would love to add photos, I have them good to go though the forum rules wont let me attach or use urls until I'm a more proven member Sad
