Right guys n gals.
Really need help.
Truck REALLY REALLY REALLY hard to start.
Done “EVERYTHING” to try to fix it from fuel lines to pump and injectors.
Last thing we are about to do is change the stack pipes etc inside tank.
Mechanic thinks it won’t start cos of air in system.?
When we spray “cold start” it will go,,but for first 5 mins is extremely flat,,with foot to floor it does not rev at all and puffs light grey smoke like a train!!!
Once running,it goes ok .
Please please PLEASE help as I’m not using my truck and in this weather it’s driving me mad !

Thanks everyone
👍👍👍👍

Hi
It has the correct spec, brand new ones. It will turn over and over but just won’t start. With “QuickStart” it does but is very flat and has about 500rpm max!!

if the plugs are the cheap ones, they maybe the correct spec, but in my experience cheap ones do not last long. I would only use NGK, other have said Bosch or Bero are ok. Did you do the tank pipes?  I would check that the glow plugs system and plugs are functioning correctly

Changed all we can think of. Refurbed pump. New filter . Fuel lines. Tank pipes internall and filter. Glow plugs. Injectors. The lot.
It just turns over. Once started tonnes of smoke.
Once cleared after say ten mins,,drives lovely.
It will not start .

I would think that if it was a glow plug problem it would not take ten minutes to clear after starting. That leaves air leaks in the fuel system.  I am thinking maybe as small air leak which seals when it is gets hot or warmer. Air ingress from the leak off rail/pipes?  near the engine warming up? Dowty washer on the leak off rail? Cracked pipe on leak off rail?  Copper washer on the fuel filter? some Fuel filters require the top seal/metal cage removing?

Hi
Believe it or not we have done all the things you say.
Pipes,filter housing,seals,fuel lines.
It really really is doing my head in. We are totally stuck!!
I wish I knew of a REALLY good specialist in South Wales that I could go to?

Would that solenoid stop it starting but let it run on much reduced revs for 10 mins???

It's function is to stop the engine, so presumably if it was not opertaing correctly it could partially stop the engine, perhaps until it got warm and freed. I have not had any experience with it so I can't say for sure how it works., I imagine it just opens and closes. Maybe it does not open/close until it gets warm?

If it runs ok eventualy ther can't be much wrong with it.
