I'm still trying to narrow down the potential causes of a clicking noise coming from the air-conditioning compressor on a 2003 Gen 3 Facelift  6G74 GDi 3.5. If you could have a listen and give me an opinion it'd help me to plan on what needs doing and how much work it'll need since I want to deal with it at the same time as doing a timing belt change.

I recorded the noise and reported it in another thread when I suspected it was caused by viscous fan or belt tensioners.

From the original thread: "I've been noticing over the last few months what I originally thought was a noisy tappet that is especially noticeable at start-up and idle tick-over. It has got louder recently".

Here's an excerpt from the video; I switch the air-conditioner on at 21 seconds and off then on again at 27 seconds.

Logic makes me suspect the clutch. If so, is it possible to remove the clutch without degassing and removing the compressor itself ?

You can safely remove the clutch without degassing as the clutch unit is not part of the compressor, merely part of the drive train.
