The truck has been back and forth the last few days and its driving me nuts. The missus hasnt been looking after her so I decided as a 'lesson' to let it go in without me doing all my usual checks. This may have backfired somewhat. Its a 1996 V6 3.0 LWB Auto and sailed the MOT last year.
Initally failed on :
Battery wedged in with beer mats (Its done 4 MOTs like this)
Cracked Light in the bumper
Washer Jets (She filled the wrong bottle but the headlamp washers now work!)
Brakes All round (Known, expected and she has been reminded non stop for months to get the pads)
Track rod end - Meh, happens, replaced both sides and checked everything else.
Body Mount rusted, this was a surprise as she had NO rust. Some point in the past she has had a crash repair on the front end. A spot weld had popped, been missed and the tin worm got in. £200 for the whole mount to be refabricated as there was nothing to weld.
Exhaust CO High at .83
So everything done, fuel system cleaner run through, slab of mud that WAS and air filter changed. Tiny exhaust blow on the EGR pipe sorted. Ragged around the back lanes a bit to clean her out as normally she potters about. Off back to garage, CO is now .77
Back here, oil system flushed, filter done, new oil. Thought about doing the plug again, decided not to. Good check over the exhaust and off we go again...No better, and I'm now burning oil on idle (Stem seals?).
Spoken to our local Mitsi specialist (Mitsiart in Portsmouth) who is convinced its nothing serious, I'm about ready to torch it. Its hammering down with rain at the moment but the plan is to go over the vacuum and exhaust system with a fine toothed comb. Put some smoke stop in for the stem seals. Might manually try to pull down a vacuum in the system and see what happens. I have tried to pull off the fault codes and I now have a fault code I didnt know I had from the transmittion (TPS Sensor) and knowledge that my check engine bulb is out or doesnt work, which makes me suspicious and I rather suspect it'll be missing rather than blown.
Is there anything else to look at. I REALLY dont want to have to do the plugs but I think not doing so will be silly. FWIW She runs silky smooth, pulls like a train and doesnt miss a beat. Idle and cruise you cant even hear the engine unlike the 2.8 which is a little less refined |

Any progress?
I'm interested as am seriously considering a Gen 2 3.0 V6 but unsure of general MOT experiences since the rules changed.
Thanks |
