Anyone swapped out an entire exhaust system?
Mine has basically all but fallen off & the quotes I've had from the usual suspects have all been the best part of £2k.
I've looked on line and found a complete brand new system for £650.
So the question is - has anyone swapped out the exhaust on their car & if so how hard was it?
Can it be done without a ramp? How long did it take?
Or am I better off paying for someone to do the job for me?
I have had another option suggested to me & that's to have an exhaust made at a specialist which might actually work out cheaper than the quite frankly ridiculous prices that I've been auoted.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

For £650 you could have a stainless steel one made and fitted by them.

i have a mk3 which has just started to fall apart on the rear silencer so i looked for a replacement and found a couple ranging from £100 to £160 ish but that's not the complete system only the rear 2 silencers, i'm guessing you want the whole system from downpipe, cat and silencers. Not sure what's fitted to a mk4 but that's what i have on mine and as a mk4 you probably have a dpf filter as well which puts the cost up.. Milners 4x4 was the £150 but you will need to add on postage, but once again thats for a mk3, don't know without looking if they do a mk4 exhaust.
Ive only ever changed the exhaust on a mk2 and it wasn't that hard to and i didn't use ramps or anything as there is quite a lot of clearance underneath but i would suggest that if you replace sections use new nuts and bolts throughout and possible new rubbers to support the exhaust as it makes it so much easier.

As Simon says, Milners, the MK 3 is easy apart from the tailpipe and you access this through the rear trailing arm instead of faffing about trying to get around it, I would also suggest if you get one with threaded holes you drill the threads out and use nuts and bolts and coat with copper grease before fitting.

I've ended up replacing just the bits that were falling off - DPF & middle silencer - as on closer inspection, the rest of it is in pretty good nik.
I do have one problem though that someone might have a tip about - the exhaust gas temp probe that sits in the rear end of the dpf - mine is stuck fast in there & i don't think there is any way of unscrewing it - Anyone managed to remove it? If so, how?
I have ordered a new one and that should be here by the weekend, but it means that until it turns up i'm off the road - fortunately I have use of my lads car for the time being.

Also, the pressure sensor lines on the dpf - these were held in with some kind of resin. I'd expected them to bolted in. Is this how they came out the factory or has someone replaced my dpf in the past?
I'm going to put them back in, in the same way with a hardening resin unless anyone knows any reason why i shouldn't??
