Hi guys this is my first post as I’ve always been able to find a solution from a search but this time I’m stuck.
My truck is a shogun r plate 1998 swb 3l v6 petrol.
Less than a month ago my power windows stopped working overnight while the truck was parked and after many hours of searching around for a fix I found the 30a fusible link in the engine bay had blown but the 10a under the dash had not blown strangely.
They have worked fine until today when I was driving home from work there was a bit of a burning smell (I don’t recall operating the windows at that time) and when I got home the windows have stopped working again.
I changed the fusible link fuse with the ignition off and it blew straight away so I still have a window stuck down.
Im guessing there is a short somewhere but I have no idea where to start looking as the wiring is fairly tightly packed and hard to get to under the dash.
The haynes manual is not much use as it just showed the fusible link feeds to the 10a fuse under the dash then to the window switches.
Any help and advice is greatly appreciated luckily it’s going to be dry for a few days.

Do some tests with a meter to find out if there is a complete closed circuit ( ~ 0 resistance) or partial resistance between the power line and chassis ground. I'd start at the fusible link. Remove it, then test both sides (upstream and downstream) between the terminals and chassis ground. If that is anything but open circuit you've got a damaged cable or component somewhere causing the short. If that fusible link leeds to the 10A fuse and that didn't break that suggests the short is between the downstream side of the fusible link and the upstream side of the 10A fuse terminal.

Chaffing of cables against a sharp chassis edge, mice, broken connector could all be causes.

Hi iam_tj thanks for your reply that’s really useful. I won’t get to properly test it till the weekend but will have a quick look around tomorrow for any signs of damaged wires.
I’m guessing it feeds from the fuse box in the engine bay to behind the dash and then to the internal fuse box.
Is there any way I can get the window up for now as I could still open the rear sliders for the hot weather at the minute.
