This is just an fyi...  3.2 DiD on '51 plate.  When servicing, I would check the air filter - all looked ok.  The other day I needed to tighten the alternator drive belt - decided the easiest way to get to it was to take off the cold air intake pipe.  And was surprised when a load of leaves came out.  There is a fixed "fan" in the intake pipework (presumably to give it a "swirl"), and it had caught so many leaves that the pipe was almost blocked.  (The "fan" is before the air filter - bonkers!)

I was a bit surprised that the engine management warning light hadn't flagged an issue with air flow - it's probably been like that for years.

The car now seems to run a fair bit better - the thing I've really noticed is more power at low revs (there's a surprise!).  Before, it wouldn't really pull 5th gear until about 50 mph.  Now it's happy in 5th at 40mph.  And the exhaust doesn't sound quite as raspy...

So - everyone else probably knew this - and now I do too!

This is not a standard fitment and they didn't have fans in the air intake pipe and they didn't even rely on the ram air affect where the air inlet is in direct airflow as they are a traditional 4X4 and the actual air inlet is behind the curve in the bonnet and bolted to the slam panel with two M6 bolts and this is to prevent direct water and dirt ingress to help keep the air filter and inlet air clean and if you go through deep water it does not have direct access into the air inlet so you can drive them correctly through deep water and water will go over the bonnet and the air inlet behind it, or through the front grill where it is directed down and below the air inlet.
