Hi all, I have just spent the last year experimenting with various forms of veg oil fuel and can say that any diesel car can run on a mixture of 20% veg oil and 80% mineral diesel.
Any larger percentage of the veg oil could result in unburnt fuel seeping down into the sump mixing with the engine oil and turning it to a black goo, resulting in engine failure. The cost of fitting proper heating systems to keep insurance companies happy would be in the region of seven hundred pounds.
I am at present using bio diesel produced from used cooking oil which is reacted to give a viscosity very similar to mineral diesel. I have at present got 5 vehicles running on this and can say there is no problem with this fuel if it is bought from a reliable source or made and filtered very carefully.
