I strongly suggest that anyone with an older than 8 year old Pajero needing their air con gassed up, take there front evaporator out and clean all the gunk out. It makes a big difference!!! Just remember to de-gas before removing the evaporator.

Instructions for the removal of front evaporator as follows.

REMEMBER TO DE-GAS!!!!!!!! (System Runs at 10Bar)

1. Remove glove box stop lugs.
2. Unscrew glove box from bottom bracket.
3. Remove left hand speaker cover.
4. Un screw the two screws beneath the speaker.
5. Un screw the bracket on the right hand side.
6. Now you can remove the bracket the glove box was screwed to.
7. Below left speaker there is a screw to remove the bottom “Floor space cover”
8. Now lift the bonnet.
9. Remove back aux battery.
10. Undo 4 bolts securing the battery holder revealing the air con pipes from the compressor going to the evaporator.
11. Undo the two bolts securing the flow and return for the evaporator.
12. Remove the water drainpipe below the flow/return.
13. Now unbolt the evaporator from the inside
14. Slide the evaporator down and out.
15. Unscrew the evaporator box and remove all the clips.
16. The box should now slide apart and reveal the evaporator.
17. Carefully remove all the crud from the evaporator.
18. Reassemble in reverse order replacing o-rings if they are hard.

The O-Rings you can replace at this stage are on the connection between the bulkhead and the evaporator; you should be able to see them from the inside of the car through the hole the evaporator connects. There is a small one and a large one. I know the Mitsi part number for the small one “MB946604” not sure about the larger one though.

This procedure takes about an hour and a half.

No Big Deal

My Air con is really cold now, not that it is any use in this country Wink
