Hi all i'm gonna be a convert soon but can't make up my mind as to a 2.8td or a 2.5td !
Now here's my needs :
1)Must be better in performance than my 2.5tdi discovery !

2)To tow a 22ft caravan without being exessivly slow on hills !

3)Must be very reliable !

4)Auto box is prefered !

Also is there any problems to look out for like rust areas etc ?

Hiya matey,
2.8 auto exceed.
Thats the one for you.
One just canny compare it to a d*isco

You dont mention where you are in your profile, which could be a hindrence if you need help.
However, If you are near to Beaulieu pop down and see us at our club stand

If your towing a 'van then definately the 2.8 or larger.........common prob with the 2.8 diesel is the fuel pump.......the seals on some breakdown due to different diesel over here........pump re-build £2-300 but still worth it.

I've had my 2.8 since December and it's excellant.

I've had the pump seviced £190 now no problems at all.

I,ve changed two brake discs - they tend to warp after time £60 (parts only) changed them myself. I would check for this during the test drive just in case.

Brake pads all round - cheap to buy.

Filters and oil.

Now I can't fault it, starts no problem, power at a push of the pedal, comfort - I'm really glad I decided to buy it.

I could have gone for the 2.5 as I don't tow but I do like the extra power.

Hope this helps

Laughing Hi I my self have a 2.5 pajero and tow a 23'9" bailey pageant
and have no trouble at all os the choice is still yours? I think the
weight off the caravan has a lot to do with the power you need

just bought a 2.8 exceed.I have test drove both engine sizes and without anything on the back they are both excellent considering size and weight of car.But if your going to tow you may aswell go for the biggy less stress on engine etc.Good luck in finding one ,got mine from autoserv in selby.
