OK, here we go, in instalments ..
Essentail Info :
What do you want to eat !!! this applies to evening meal food only ...
Options are :
1.total DIY - you look after yourselves for evening meal food all weekend ..
2. Saturday night Gourmet BBQ .. at a couple of meets we have done a pay-for BBQ - this option is available... I am a chef, so can source ingredients at good value ... an example menu is as below ... which we did for £5 each at Birthday Bash in Wales last year ...
can do similar again ... will vary menu according to seasonal prices etc ..
Menu for Mr John Lloyd’s 50th Anniversary Special
Saturday 22nd October 2005
Served al Fresco en attendance at your Vacances Abode
A commence
An array of Sumptious Fresh Green Lanes, served with aqua on the rocks, accompanied by many amigos to partake in similar jovialities.
Entrée
Vin de Lloyd, avec patatas fritas and garni
Le Buffet Supreme
An Array of Fruits de Mer:......
Salmon with a lemon and black pepper marinade
Tuna or Swordfish Steaks
Prawns Grillade
Trout with Fine Herbs
Des Carnes Grillades.....
Fore-rib of Yorkshire beef
Thyme fed Lamb, slow marinated in a sticky molasses and red wine and herb Jus
½ a pig, bbq’d with an apple brandy sauce
Fine Butchers sausages
Home-made gourmet bread
Salad selection
Dessert
Roasted Marshmallows
to be able to deliver something similar to this, we would ask that each family contribute as much charcoal as possible ( min 1 bag) and be willing to help out with set-up, lay tables, clear up, wash up, etc etc - also we do need folks to come forth with loan of BBQ's, Electric contact grills (george formans's etc), tables, chairs, also if folks can bring some large serving dishes to loan as well .... bowls, platters, trays etc etc ..etc everyone BYO plates , cutlery etc .. in this way, we can spend all money on food
kids food, up to age 12 or so ( or when they scoff loads) will be free... so long as mum and dad are having the bbq ... ( we will have sos and burgers etc for kids )
Any food left over will be used on the Sunday night ...
3. Everyone BYO and we all DIY in together , bring your own bbq’s to a communal area, and either do, or don’t pitch in your food, accompaniments etc …
4. also, Warlock and his very beautiful lady, Sorcerous, can provide a Chilli con carne meal on the Friday night for £1.50 per person .. this will save folks having to worry/think about food on arrival ...
There is no pressure for anyone to feel compelled to joining in to this ... but we do need to know 1 week before, and if you sign up, by expressing an interest below, please honour your commitment, as we have to pay for all the food etc … and to have folks not pay etc is not fair on others … this has happened on previous meets ……… (‘nuff said)
For my tuppeny worth, for best value, and most fun etc the big gourmet BBQ is the best idea ….. just so long as folks are happy, and honest, to pay …
any offers to help cook, prep etc are very welcome ..
please post your comments below ..

Yes, yes to the Gourmet BBQ, and yes yes to the chilli
Can bring: Cobb grill, smallish twin sided BBQ, single ring gas stove thing, folding gazebo, chairs, a couple of large serving bowls, etc.etc. Anything else you need ? We may be able to help.
Also make a very mean chilli ( we're the home of Lincolnshire's best Chilli Con carne ) if lots of people subscribe and you need more bringing, Warlock & Missus - just let me know.
Anyone want a 'roving gypsy violinist' for an hour or so while we eat on Saturday?
Just one question Mark: Thyme fed Lamb, slow marinated in a sticky molasses and red wine and herb Jus
How do you get the lamb to eat the Thyme?

now we're cookin !!
any use of gazebo's, shelter/cover etc will be most useful - just in case of rain !!! - getting approx 120 folks under cover takes some space, plus a disco, and the bbq/food etc !!!
@daisy, the fields the lamb grazes on are thyme-rich ..
there will probably be some changes to that menu, as prices/seasonality has changed ...but it will be very similar .....
any budding chefs out there willing to assist as well?

OOh err Chilli on Friday night please for me and the misses, the fussy 7 year old wont go for it though.
And oh yes the gourmet spread on Saturday sounds fab, we have 2 x 3m square gazebos we can bring should keep a few people dry.
If anything else is needed just ask and I will see what we can do.
Sounds like we should all have a bit of a laugh 8)
Cheers

Happy to help with the food prep. and the cooking as well.
Rather not get all the gutting and skinning of the fish and the squirrels tho.
Forgot to say it's just me & Mike - not sure about Boris the dog - but he's no help with the cooking anyway, except for eating the scraps of course |

Great plans
Put the Barrow Family (jasper et al) down for the chili and the gourmet BBQ.
If there's anyone out there with Zimbabwe or South African connections, I can get hold of some genuine boerwors, boerburgers, not to mention biltong, droewors etc. Just let me know how many bodies and I'll arrange a supply. e-mail me direct on john@foodhygiene.com - as you might guess from my URL I'm a food safety specialist, but I'll take off my white coat for this event and put on my apron.
Happy to help out with braii - will try to bring the half oil drum but might get over-ruled in favour of clothes, bedding, etc. in the back of the Paj !
