i have ran a couple of events to Hodge Close this year and people seemed to fall in love with the place(see backwoods camping event reviews).
i was wondering if anybody new of any other places like this open fires, shooting, free space and peace to chill out and do your own thing. |

there are loads and loads of pics on t'net, just google it in, you'll find pics from various clubs, its a very popular site!
sounds like we should have a camping weekend there in the spring then! of course, we can tag ourselves onto another clubs meet, there is lots of room, or have one of our own. |

Hi Taz, drumclog i`ve seen your post about the mud does drumclog cater for openfires also are there any walks and other things to do apart from play in the mud? would it be good for a weeks holiday and would tents, trailertents and tintents(caravans) be welcome as Paul said looking for a long weeks trip to somewhere that is a bit different but a place that can take a good few trippers Scotland or Wales also close to the beaches or some place safe for children to have fun to.

open fires yes, the rest no, not really. it is a nice area, but a weekend at drumclog is enough really. |

marty is right about drumclog, but ayrshire and dumfrise and galloway are a part of scotland that is overlooked, there are lots of forest walks etc, there are a lot of caravan sites on west coast ,largs, ayr ,girvan, but a few ,i think if your at drumclog for a weekend louden country park is close ,it has lots of rides and things for kids, but as with a lot of these places you have to pay.even if you venture up north you wont regret it its beatiful, and if you look hard enough there are things to keep kids amused. |

thanks for the input so far Tazbabe, that just might be a good idea for the spring at drumclog but to make it worth it for us foreigners to get out our passports could it be a long weekend like springbank holiday weekend and maybe just a Y/D event and kylecollie you are right there are loads of sites around largs etc but i was looking more for the less commercialised sites that people discover and try to keep secret. as you will see once you have been to hodge close information on old quarries, farmers that have those secret woods with a lake and the little used off the beaten track places that charge very little . |
