I know the haynes manual isn't rated highly but it does say that the vapours in the canister are routed into the combustion chambers via the air cleaner. I haven't checked this though and I'm not going out in the rain to do so.

The canister appears to vent into the intake through a series of valves..found a piccy in a manual but no idea how the system works

Thanks everyone for all your replies. As I said, since I am not very techinically conversant with cars I shall consult with an expert on all your comments. As mentioned earlier, it is rather dangerous and I think MMC should need to recall the car and check it out themselves. That is what I have suggested to the local dealer.
Does anyone know about the possiblity of this happening because of a computer malfunction?? It is just someone mentioned that to me.
Regards.

Even if the purge control valve is faulty or there is a computer control error, I'm of the opinion that those are all moot points.
The primary concern for me would be WHY your immobiliser, when switched off via the key fob is powering the ignition system?
It should never ever do that unless you have turned the ignition key.
Has anyone done any electrical work on the vehicle prior to this problem or have you had the alarm system/immobiliser changed ? |
