Whooo - that was quick.
I see you're all alive and kicking out there...

re: - there's a few people who have been wrongly banded because the DVLA has taken the date of first registration in UK as the date of manufacture.
This was the reason I asked about getting co2 emissions done privately, because if I get registered at a new date, they might not get the emissions right - cos there ain't no 2.4 Sports availbale on their list...!
But, if we can prove low emissions, then maybe we can reduce the sum that we might have to pay to Mr Brown (the english Highwayman)...?
Otherwise, I could always write and prove the year of manufacture if I had to...!
either way, it's an us & them sitch, and I wanna keep what little I have in my own poche merci ą vous...!
so any further help on private emissions will be greatlfully received...

Incidentally Anne, you can find the ą with grave by using alt + 0224 if you want? all the hats and coats as I call 'em are listed in the Character map in Windows Accessories/System tools...
Are you fluent? cos I'm certainly not!
for now
thanx all
Lou

Lads & lassies, ye're lucky in the UK with the tax system ye have. Over here in Ireland at the moment a 2.5TD Pajero would cost the equivalent of 730 pounds sterling (990euro) & the 2.8TD would cost 883 pounds sterling (1,200euro) for a year (this taking into account the Irish Government's recent increase in car taxes in the Nov budget).
From July 08, we will also have CO2 emmission based taxing. I currently drive a 1991 Pajero on UK plates which I will have to declare on Wed to the Revenue. I will end up paying the 730pounds sterling (990euro) for a years tax. If I imported this 4x4 after July 2008, the tax would be 1,471 pounds sterling (2,000 euro) Evil or Very Mad  Evil or Very Mad  because of the emmissions. We're gonna be screwed over here

To find out exactly how much your tax will be click this link...
http://www.vehiclelicence.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/index.jsp
then click "vehicle enquiry" on the left. All you need is the make and registration.

Very usefull if buying a car to check first.

Oh Boy! Reading these posts does give me an air of satisfaction. Road Tax? - What is Road Tax? Also, I have no nightmares from Parking Wardens. If I see a nice space, I park in it. Double Yellows? No Problem!
There has to be SOME advantage in being disabled!

If the new VED changes come in that they've been talking about today (2nd July) for cars registered 2001, will that affect me if I've got a 94 Paj registered in th UK after 2001?

Do remember it is not the year that the truck was imported in to the UK that sets the road tax payable,
but it is the year it was manufactured that determines how much road tax should be paid!

ie. my truck was imported in 2001 but manufactured in 1995 and carries a "N" plate and falls into the reasonable tax bracket..

Hi Nick,

this is an interesting development from all the documentation that I have read suggests that emission figures were not provided by manufactures until 2001 and therefore don't know where our trucks should fit within the tax brackets prior to that year, thus they have decided to place us in the bottom bracket to avoid confrontation. As I see it the only other way would be forced emission tests on an individual basis followed by allocation into road tax brackets from test results. This would be pretty unfair as our emission results vary quite a bit don't they?

Should you happen to find that post I and many others would be most interested to read it?

regards
