|
|
Hi, new to this forum.
Have Challenger 3.0v6 petrol. Now has slight loss of power. Feels like slight misfire at 40-50mph.
I'm thinking spark plugs/ HT leads. Can't see sparks short circuiting off leads in the dark though.
Anyway, spark plugs seem to be hidden under fuel injection gubbins.
How do I get access to them (trying to avoid garage bills as prefer to do my own servicing)?
Many thanks,
Paul. |

Hi there the Doge Challenger should have the same engine as mine and the spark plugs are on the outside of the cylinder heads. The things you are looking at are the injectors...
The engine is a 6G72 3.0l V6 yeah?
The plugs should not be to difficult to get at...
See ya and happy fiddling |

Maybe its the later of the 3.0 24V (DOHC?) that had the bigger fuel injection components??
Pure guess sorry! |

If its the V6 24V Like mine then I used this site as a guide...............
http://www.monterosportonline.com/diy-perf2.html
At first the job looks worse than it is.............
Excellent guide, maybe a few difference's but take your time, take your own photo's as you go and mark everything as you remove it! Watch the inlet plenum bolts as they are all different lengths.
You will also need a new Intake manifold gasket as shown in the link photos, and also a new gasket for the EGR tube (This gasket has to be fitted the same way as the one that came off so remove and check carefully).
Good luck and again work methodically and take your time................ |

To change spark plugs you must remove the inlet manifold, how many miles have you done??? should be changed every 54,000 miles, platium plugs only. |

Hi,
engine is standard 3.0v6, not 24v.
Mileage is 114,000 so plugs must be overdue for a change.
Didn't realise they lasted for 54k (thank god considering).
Thanks for link to other site with photos.
Will attempt soon.
Wife HATES car but I can only say one thing......"it never breaks down UNLIKE the Discovery we had before!"
Thanks, Paul |

I had heapps of problems changing the plugs on my V6 SOHC 3.0l NF unitil I reliased that the previous owner had used 16 mm plugs on the rear cyclinders, and 21 mm plugs on the front ones.
I was about to pull the heqads offf to change the plugs, as I couldnt get my 21 mm scoket to undo the rear plugs. |

I used a similar guide to that and managed to get plugs changed ona 3 litre.
Took a while, because I am no mechanic.
Not that difficult diy.
Hardest parts are - finding all bolts for the manifold - some are well hidden.
- and remembering where everything goes back.
My engine bay ended up with loads of wee Tippex dots and lines where the vac tubes etc were to go back.
When stuck, I called a mate...
Cannot get the manifold off.
Mate replied - you missed a bolt.
Went looking again.
Called him again - manifold will not budge.
He replied - you missed a bolt.
Sure enough - I had missed 2 bolts.
