Confused  Once again i'm after some help. This is a bit long winded but please stay with me.
I'm in the first week of my two week holiday (supposed to be in Scotland). Why aren't you there (i hear you ask). i will tell you.
A couple of weeks ago my gearbox refused to select any gears when the engine was running. After a week in the garage, they informed me that the layshaft bearings (appologies for my spelling) was knackered so they needed replacing but the gearbox specialist was busy for the foreseeable future. Fair enough, i thought, i'll be smart and get a gearbox from another V6 and get them to fit it (leaving me the task of replacing the bearings, therefore understanding how the gearbox works). Great. No. The box i got was from a V6 SWB (mines a V6 LWB). These don't fit. The input shaft is around 4cm shorter and the mounting points are different (as well as the bellhousing). So, i go to another gearbox specialist 40 miles away to get the gearbox sorted. He opens the box and find the cog on the end of the input shaft (i think) has moved because the circlip has broken, pushing the cog onto the fifth gear, locking it, therefore not alllow the gearbox to move. He then fixes it, i go back to the garage, refit gearbox. HOORAY!!!!!. NOT QUITE  cussing . The 1st gear jumps out, i have no 4th gear (refuses to go in), and it whines like a good un. It's going back again to the gearbox guy tomorrow, but here's the thing. I goes into all gears when the engine is off. I've had the clutch replaced about a month ago if that's any help.
At the moment my shougn feels think a bottomless money pit. (but i'm still not getting rid)

ask your gearbox man if it's possible just to change the bell housing from one gearbox to the other that works on a lot of vehicles. although i'm not very familiar with manual pajeros.
