Hi

have not been on here for a while, I used to own 2.8 challenger import with the auto box good car never gave me any issues, I am now looking to purchase an L200,  so 2.5 manual, or get the import 2.8 auto?  pros and cons? fuel cosumption etc. will be used to tow a 6 berth caravan from time to time.

also any major reliability isses with any of the two

thanks

The only real issue is that there are very few 2.8s around. Never an offical import into UK the 2.8 came in via the grey route with and without turbos, manual and auto gearboxes.
One to avoid is the 2.8 non turbo automatic cos its gutless. For towing the 2.8 turbo auto would seem the ideal choice.....not seen a 2.8 turbo manual myself but Im sure they are out there somewhere

Bloody hell ! Didnt realise that we even had a L200 discussion board on the site  Rolling Eyes  never been this far down the main menu before !  Laughing I WAS looking for an L200 then realised that at this money we are in EVO PAJ territory  Twisted Evil  Now just got to convince the wife that -
1) an evo paj is a practical work horse
2) It's cheap to run  Rolling Eyes
3) It's a nessesary spend of 7K
and 4) I WILL come back into the house at night to sleep  Laughing  Laughing

seriously tho Nick I didnt realise that there were turbo and non turbo models  Shocked should I stay away from 2.8's then ? Do ALL 2.5's come turbo'd ? Looking at a nice 3LTR V8 full service history,5K, LPG converted but 80 tho miles ? And its gonna have to last me a few years. Are there many miles left in a mitsi 80,000 miler petrol ? Only ever had dealings with the oil burners ? Lots of questions I know  Wink  What would you be looking for in an L200 ?

See what you mean Nick  Rolling Eyes  cant even get a sniff of one let alone one for sale  Sad This one I'm looking at is starting to look like a good buy the more I delve into them. Could get a much lower milage deisel tho with ALOT more toys for the same money  Confused All seem to be manual tho and I've never been offroad in a manual. Is it all clutch smoke and swearing with a manual. And clutch rebuilds after every playday most prob  Rolling Eyes  Laughing

Hi barrie it is suprising just how little you do use the clutch in a manual offroading when in low ratio i was exactly the same dredding pulling the clutch out every month but they perform well and if anything are better for hill decent's than auto's (my opinion) as the ngine has more brakeing than an auto so less chance of a runaway  Wink
