Thanks for the lists, etc. I was really asking for the minimum, rather than a bootful of stuff which will cost me a small fortune. I am still going out off roading with the towrope, wellies and my packed lunch if its a full day's event. |

I agree! Amazes me, the amount of people who carry a hi-lift, and dont even have any suitable jacking points |

A highlift has many many more uses than just jacking your truck up!!! |

Paul:
It rather depends on what kind of off roading you propose to do, and what kit others already have who go with you, this also dictates the type of preperation you will need to do to your vehicle.
A correctly driven vehicle with a knowledgeable driver will be able to traverse terrain far better than a fully specced vehicle with an idiot behind the wheel, i see this regularly with the Land Rover Defender brigade who laugh at my F20 until i drive past them when they are all stuck. This is why training is essential, it teaches you the fundamentals of off road driving, and vehicle types, and allows you to see working vehicles and the prep and mods done to them.
One interesting point made is that of high lift jacks, they do have many uses, but as pointed out, many do not have a suitable point on their vehicles to use them, and in addition, many do not know how to use them properly, the same applies to the equally valid point made about kinetic recovery straps.
It is simply about decisions, learning from them, and developing your equipment to suit your application and needs over time. |

^^ On that note, I never leave home without a good helping of common sense. Forward planning alone will make sure you will never get into those spots where you would need a secondary vehicle & rope.
Don't attempt anything heroic, go at your own pace, don't be afraid to get out and walk, test depths of the puddles, remember turning points and don't go so far you can't reverse.
10 years of driving off road and I have never come a cropper. I only get into a jam when I go out with other people/vehicles because I tend to take more liberties |
