took bottom protection plate off to get access to alternator and found this (see pics) what is it and wheres it from?its about 6" long and 2" deep,cheers

You found it? Just sitting topside of the bash plate  Question Looks like an alternator bracket possibly.

Do you mean this thing is at the sumpguard without bolting to anyparts of engine/chassis Rolling Eyes

That's a bracket which bolts onto the engine but I can't remember if its for the air con pulley adjuster, or something to do with the power steering bracket or pump. I think its the former. Maybe even alternator or air con compressor itself?

More likely air con, and someone's removed the air con from the car but left that loose and/or dropped it.

hmmm  If like that u better check what Paul had posted.....thats was a really heavy bracket "from look" and i feel it use to hold something which heavy or had big torque Wink ,the people who drop it at there is really not responsible Mad

def not the alternator and i dont see anywhere for it to bolt onto  Shocked ,no doubt mechanic will find where it goes

It's part of the bracket that holds the power steering pump. It should be located at the front of the engine to the left, just under the pulley for the p/s pump. at about the same height as the forward most part of the exhaust manifold.
