The one you have is the best one for the job... just make sure it works properly, if not then refill it.. do a search and you will find the thread.... use the aircon one and save up for a new head!!!!!

Hi I have fitted an electric one as my old fan broke... the blades broke off it... believe me it makes absolutely no difference to economy... well probably less than 0.1mpg.... spend £20 on an electric fan and the payback will be hundreds of thousands of miles....

The fuse went on mine, if I hadn't noticed the temp gauge it would have cooked the head... believe me you don't want one, stick with the viscous...

The only reason I keep mine is that the Mk1 doesn't have an aircon fan and I haven't got any room to fit one in front because of the winch so I am using a two stage fan from a Lancer that comes on if the temp calls for it or the aircon comes on, then if both call, it goes twice as fast.... works for the aircon well, as it was overheating and not cooling during the summer....

If you want to increase mpg then change all the filters, get the mixture and boost set correctly, don't carry unnecesary weight, check the tyre pressures... etc etc... you will get far more than changing the fan....

the viscous is biting all the time hot and cold, and is sapping engine power which in turn must be burning more fuel, i have found a decent inline thermo switch on eblag which you plumb in with the radiator hose like a t piece, just need a suitable fan? if an electric fan is a waste of time why do kenlow pacet make an electric fan conversion kit for most makes of cars and state clearly that you wll save fuel etc??

Same reason there are loads of devices on eblag that "save you fuel"... to sell them

Do what you like I am just offering my own experiance as I have done it.... it doesn't save you fuel, well not any measurable amount.

If you do it you will need to get some new bolts for the fan pulley to give enough room to get an electric one in, also you will have to remove the shroud as you will have to offset it to gain the room...

Be careful of cheap controllers.... how much is your cylinder head worth to you???

And then watch the gauge all the time.....

if you are going to fit a fan make sure you mount it to the body or radiator mountings, dont use the kenlowe / pacet through the core mounts.

I had a 12month nightmare with my pacet fan kit, it damaged the radiator, it blew fuses and damaged it's relay for no apparent reason, then (for a 16"hd fan) could not cool the paj in the middle of the summer with a trailor behind me

I went back to the viscus fan and will be keeping it.

Are you sure your engine is not overheating if the viscus fan keeps biting??
