had a phone call from a freind off me mrs they are buying a static so wanted to know if we were interested in there van. its a hobby 7 hundred something 24 foot twin axle think its about a year 2000 nice blue and white thing with a full length awning. its currently on a lovely site right on the shore of loch ken in dumfries. i wasent sure as i dont fancy towing one that big/wide but when he said £1000 for the van and its only £1400 a year to leave it at loch ken were going to have it for a weekend bolthole. i used to do a bit of fishing as a child so im reading all i can on pike fishing (apparently its a good place for pike ) and fionas talking about another speed boat  Rolling Eyes and im sure the dog will love it .so ill be asking loads of newbe caravan questions  Very Happy just hope i never have to move it dont know if a shoggie 2.5 sport will pull it

Sounds like a bargain to me... you lucky sod!

Without wanting to open up a can of worms - just a note if you do have to tow it. If it is one of the wider models Hobby (over 7'6") then it is technically illegal to tow it on the highway unless towing with a commercial vehicle.

Now I don't make the laws, and I know many do tow these with a 4x4, but unless it's classed as a commercial vehicle - which most 4x4's are not - then you are breaking the law. I have heard rumours that some forces are clamping down on this, and Strathclyde are apparently at the top.

Having said that, if I were you I'd leave it at the site and enjoy the weekends away!

According to folk on the Caravan Club all Hobbys over the 540 are 2.5m wide which I assume means you cant legally tow it...................................yet Wink  Have a quick read of THIS  Wink
