any idea what the orange warning light is to the left of the battery light on the dash.

If it's directly to the left of the battery light, then its red and the oil pressure warning light, left of this - orange- is the fuel filter warning light - generally water to be drained off.
below the battery lamp is an orange light with an oil can symbol - low oil level, just top it up.
To the left of this the diesel preheat lamp - green.
