TPS is "throttle position sensor". Purchase's post does explain how to test and replace it, but doesn't explain the acronym.

Basicly wot it says on the tin.... 8)

Works out the position of the throttle, and tells the brain of the motor, for things like gear changing and various other items in connection with the throttle. Confused

Had a TPS pack-up on my car before, it was telling the brain that the throttle was fully open and confused things Rolling Eyes
The revs would bounce from 600 to about 1500, got quiet interesting at traffic lights, junctions etc. in an auto Shocked

TPS is a throttle position sensor, and sits on top of the diesel injection pump.It controls the EGR, and tells the gearbox computer what your right foot is doing. They go duff, and the gearbox gets in a right muddle, and can do lots of slipping.

I get 22 mpg from my beast I wasn't too happy with that in the begining but now it doesn't really matter (said in the style of Vick & bop) the feeling I get from driving the D out ways the heart ache and pain at the pump.

When I bought my Delica in stock standard form it was returning an unacceptable 19mpg. I took it to a diesel specialist who adjusted the turbo and fuel pump, blanked the ERG, fixed a manifold leak ( quite common with these motors apparently)and fitted a mandrel bent 2 1/2" exhaust system with free flowing sports muff . Lo and behold 25mpg and more torque and power.
The very strict pollution laws in Japan means that these vehicles are "detuned" and in order to breathe better the engine needs some tinkering. You bought it cheap, spend a few quid and really make a difference to both power and economy. Cheers, Dean.

Seems reasonable to me Wink Geniune Mits oil & air filter comes to £76 Shocked Air filter on yours may have looked clean and reuseable. Provided the rest of service was complete i.e checking underneath etc, grease points (if any?). The EGR is covered by many posts including a photo fit proceedure here: http://www.pocuk.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=11092

Further to russ post ,basically the egr valve recirculates dirty air through your turbo hence turbo lag and black smoke by blocking it off will not afaik cause any problems ,the english version of the 4m40 (2.8) and 4d56 (2.5) dont have the egr valve fitted to them so blocking imho will be the same as what an english spec engine will be.Blanking plates to do the job are available herefor£5 and is very easy to fit,(as per trigs picture post in rstysparks post)i would definately say to anybody who hasnt done so to block it off straight away as a noticeable diffrence is there almost immediately, hope this helps atb
