Hi All,

Just been on the phone to Diamond about parts.

In Jan / Feb, I want to get this oil leak done, Which I think is from the head gasket (oil comming from rear right of engine then flowing down gearbox)

Can anyone tell me which of the parts below would be "ok" for me to order from Miliner or eBlag (shops) as the prices below are huge. I accept that I MUST get the head gasket from Diamond as I belierve it to be genuine Mitzi part.

Diamond Quoted me the following prices.... (inclusive of VAT)

Head Gasket    @      £48.66
Cambelt          @      £42.55
Balance Belt    @      £31.00
Cam Tensioner @     £86.22
Balance Tensoiner @ £43.23
Head Bolts    @£5.91 ea x 18 =£106.38
Inlet / exh  manifold Gasket @ £21.74
Oil Filter             @    £13.29
Fuel filter           @    £14.89 + washer @ 74p
Air Filter             @    £14.00

Delivery            @    £10.00

Total Cost          @ £432.70 ( I Think)

Adding then 8 hours @ £45+vat! (£51.75!)

I'm thinking things like the head bolts, manifold gaskets, filters , tensionrs, and belts can be outsourced?

I('m not sure about what "needs" to be genuine. I don't want to repeat this job any time soon, thats for sure!

Hi John some of those prices seem a bit excessive to me, i didnt pay anywhere near that much for the tensioners, also i personally never use new bolts, just wire brush and lightly oil (no doubt someone will say im wrong but it works for me) also the filter prices are dear, fuel filter at local motor factors is £8, oil is a fiver, and air £11.so if i was you i think i would be looking round, you know you need to use genuine head gasket, and belts or gates belts as they are same spec, last head gasket i bought was £53, from mitsi dealer, so id check that one as well.
best of luck Warren

Hi John personally if it was me i think i would be putting up with a bit of an oil leak before spending near on £800 on a repair i didnt really need to do, i dont know if youve had the head gasket go on your paj, but you will certainly know when it does, i know we had this canter a few weeks ago, but are you absolutely 100% sure its not the dipstick o ring, cos that cured my leak.
cheers warren

I remember the chat we had, what's made me look again was the fact that the oil had made it back to the crossmember, collected there and when I parked on a kerb the other day it must have ran out... it made about 8" / 10" patch of mess on the road.

I did for the fist time since noticing this leak (about 5 months ago) put about 250ml back in to the car.........! Not bad going, but I think curing this problem will make the car good again... She's a real nice example and she's my baby!

I'm going to the meet at Barton in Jan, ill nab a few people from here when I get there and get em to take a look for me!

Fancy comming down?

must admit that does sound like a lot of oil for an o ring, have you checked the engine breather, ive had that one, where it pressurises the engine then flows out oil filler cap down to the back of the head then on to the floor, im trying to come up with ideas so you dont have to do gasket unless you really have to,
wheres barton gonna see if i can make it.

Well, going to buy the bits, All parts from miliner apart from the head gasket (diamond for that as I was told they sell genuine Mitzi parts) and get the motor done in Feb... Just awaiting the sale of a caravan which gives me the money for the labour costs.....

I've also decided to have the tranmition fluid changed and have the brakes fitted that I bought about a year ago and never got around to fitting.....

Feb it'll be.....

Miliner costs BTW are £155.95 for all bits needed exept the gasket, or vat or delivery., So £250.00 all in for parts....

The oil leak got worse over the last three weeks due to the cold. BUT the car needs to make about 6 runs to the far end of Germany this year and they will fine you for an oil leak!!!!! So there is a good reason!

ill book her in with the parts in the boot and say fix the oil leak and do the fluid changes that are needed,,,,

Otherwise she's in almost perfect nick.... Well, the elec areial gave up last weds, just awaitng a new one in the post.

So, who up for Barton in 16 days time?????

Old thread I know, but my mate's Paj has EXACTLY the same leak in the place. We've done the rocker and half moons, but the leak seems to be spraying out somewhere out the back area but cannot see where. The only thing I can think is a dodgy head gasket. Oil appears to be leaking along the right hand side head gasket seam, but spraying near the back area. Oil splatters present on the bonnet underfelt and all around the turbo heat shield. The turbo oil pipes appear clean though.

It also needed a good litre or more to top up the water but no apparent water leaks anywhere....

Car drives fine..
