Autocrazy, based in Epsom.
Not a Pajero specialist but has done my servicing and MOT for 4 years now. Very competant, reliable and reasonably priced.
Contact Steve on 07973 206360 and tell him Tim sent you.

Tim

How much does he charge for a basic service? What about a full one?

Also, I am based in Surrey and am very keen on going on an offroad trip but unfortunately haven't got right tyres yet. All I have found is really expensive. Any suggestions in our area?

Many thanks,

Niko

If you're new to offroading, then I suggest sticking to road tyres to start with. Make sure you're with someone else so that if you do get stuck, you can get out again. At least with road tyres, if you get stuck you should not have got yourself "Too Far". Also, you'll learn a lot more technique with road tyres that will help you if you continue to offroad.

I took the Paj to Reading twice with Bill. both times on road tyres and that place was a bog. I somehow managed to not get stuck! nearly did on a lot of occasions, but keeping momentum, and "Wiggling" the steering wheel kept me going where others floundered! I even managed to tow one chap out. Now I have ATs on the 4x4 and am looking at M/Ts as I want bigger tyres and I am starting far more serious offroading than I used to do in the Paj, but with the ATs on the 4x4, I made one particular obstacle look very easy (So I was told afterwards when I was still shaking) I used techniques that I had learned in the Paj on road tyres!

Okay, I'm rattling on now. But give it some thought, Basic offroading your Paj will happily do without Mods, that's why so many of the guys here love them (Me Included) If you're looking for a serious off roader, then maybe you want to look for a vehicle with a "Live Axle" rather than independant suspention. Far cheaper and easier to lift etc etc. (I don't think anyone would argue with that....)

Sorry - this one slipped through my net.

Re service costs - I'll ask Steve for up to date quotes.

Re tyres - I run BFG All Terrain A/Ts 31x10.5 R15 and I won't change unless it's for a serious mud tyre.

Expensive - but the best on / off road compromise by far.
Try Kwik Fit or Just Tyres in Kiln Lane, Epsom.

Thanks for the advice guys!

Evil: I have to change my tyres as they are bordering on being illegal, hence, I figured if I am going to do some light off-roading and I have already gotten used to driving with AT tyres (I have a really slick pair of BFG's on my Paj) then I might as well continue in that direction. The tyres I am looking to fit will either be General Grabber's AT2 or Cooper Discoverers AT. How do you rate them? Both tyres are guaranteed up to 50K miles which I don't think is too bad.

Tiny: I look forward to finding out the costs as my Paj is due for a service soon. Also seeing as I am very near to you, and from the posts I have read you really know your stuff, maybe we can meet up and you can tell this newbie what you think of his Paj and maybe give me some tips on how to keep my pride and joy in its optimum condition?

Cheers to all,

Niko

Niko

I have no experience with wither of those tyres, nearly everyone I know now runs MTRs or BFGs with the exception of the biggies that run Baja's Claws or Swampers when they play.

The good thing about the BFGs, and I repeat that I can't comment on the ones you mention, is the fact they grip in the wet, which for an A/T tyre seems to be a big selling point. Not sure if BFG guarentee their milage, but be careful as "Hard" tyres with guarenteed milage are not always good in the wet. Goig back to an old Maestro when I was a lad, couldn't afford decent tyres so bought some budget ones that were "Guarenteed for x mile" and had some very scarey moments in the wet with it, including nearly running over a policeman when he stepped out into the road on a wet day to "Have a chat". He was expecting to find nearly bald tyres on the car rather than olmost new tyres on there, and said so. After about 3 months my parents helped pay for some decent tyres as I'd spun the car twice (Yes, front wheel drive) and had so many near accidents... then I lent it to my mum one day and they offered to help me buy some new tyres.... Later on I found out that she had nearly ended up in a bush as the touched the brakes on a slight bend in the wet.

I'll do a search on some of the other forums to see what I can find out about these two particular tyres based on mainly on road usage with occasional off road.

Great advice Eviled thanks!

I too have heard good things about the BFG's it is just that they are soo bloomin' expensive! I am more often than not strapped for cash so I thought the two tyres I mentioned were a good compromise between quality and value.

To be honest, however, I have found very little info on them so was kind of just going to take the gamble. If you could help me find some info it would be greatly appreciated as I am not exactly a whiz at finding info on the t'internet. Embarassed

Cheers,

Niko
