Hi guys

Ive posted this before but  I have more information.

I am looking at getting a 1993 SWB 2.8 Pajero. The owner says the speedo isnt working.

1. Isnt the 1993 2.8 and mecanical speedo, with a cable?

If so, am I right in saying to do the following check?

1. take instrument panel out and try turn the cable manually?
A= If it turns then it is spinning ( the inner and outer part) at the gearbox end?

2. If the gearbox end of the cable is all tightened up (not spinning) then the cable could still be snapped.

any help or advice is welcome.

OH SOD,

So it could be the box on top of the gear box, or the box behind the dash?

Am I on the right track?

Just a quick update

Ive been doing some research into the speedo issues on pajero's.

I read on another forum that if the speedo stops working to do the following checks.

1. take the sensor out of the gearbox (left hand side about 3/4 of the way down), give it a clean and put it back in.

If that doesnt work.

2. Take the dash out and check the connections at the top left hand corner (black square connector), make sure the connections are clean.

If that doesnt work

3. Take the speedo apart and see if one of the tracks isnt connecting or burnt out. ( If this is the case I dont know how to rectifie the problem)

If any of the above doesnt get the speedo working

4. Check that there is voltage of 5 - 9 V at the connection behind the speedo and at the sensor. There is 3 wires but there should be no voltage on the blue wire, only the other 2.

Notes:

If the Pajero has been converted to MPH from KMPH there will be a relay behind the stereo (well it could be anywhere), This may have been knocked or disconnected by mistake when fitting new stereos.

Hope this helps someone in the future.

Also, I havnt done any of this yet, but will be doing shortly so I will let you know my results.

Gareth

Good short term fix but was hoping for a longer term fix.

Thanks for the info.

Just spoke to a guy who is breaking a paj or shogun.

He was saying that the gearbox ECU is on the passenger in the footwell with a yellow connector?

Is he correct because I have took the cover off mine and there is no ECU there?

Anyone?

Hi all

Can someone tell me what these are on the side of the autogear box?

Could one be the speedo convertor?

i think they connect onto the 4WD sensors

if you look on the right hand side you'll find a big silver box

this i assume is the speed sensor.

it's possible you could be looking for something that isn't there  Confused
