OK, I admit it! It is my fault, I missed this when I checked engine at the auction.

There is a diesel leak on the top of the feul pump where the rod actuated by the accelerator enters the pump. I reckon this needs an expensive visit to a diesel specialist, unless anybody knows if there is a competant DIYer's fix.

Local garage cannot do diesel pumps, nearest specialist is 15 miles away, feul leak is an MoT failure - so I will have to drive there with no MoT or registration!

I know buying at auction is a gamble - but I should have spotted this. I checked underneath for oil and transmission leaks and on top checked condition of oil and water. When engine was running I checked on top of engine again but didn't look underneath, so didn't spot drips of feul - the leak is very hard to spot from top of engine.

So I am now realy p*ssed off with myself!

Hawk, have a look here
http://www.pocuk.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=8436&highlight=fuel+pump+leak
Ivor posted how to find exactly where the leak is coming from, and there's also mention of how to replace the seal which seems quite straightforward. I'd even let my wife have a go even though she can't load the dishawasher properly.

Thanks for the link Pete. That does seem to be same as my leak.

I am willing to give it go repairing it myself, does anybody have more detailed info on how to do it? I'll track down seals during the week and attack next weekend!

Would it be worth asking about this on the Pajero tech forum? (Do Pajero owners read this Delica forum?)

I'll be away all Sunday, will check replies on Monday.

Steve.

Fixed the leak!

Could not have done it without POCUK and the internet! How else could I have got instructions on repairing feul pumps from Bosnia! Thanks Jon!

Eleven pounds for a set of seals and about 4 or 5 hours work - Jon said it should take two but I had a problem getting one of the seals to fit and then a bit of a fight to reassemble pump!

A very fiddly job but not impossible, did not need to take pump off engine and any settings that were disturbed were marked first and put back as original. So engine now runs as before - but no leak!!

Thanks again Jon.

Just waiting for speedo face, then I can book MoT. The face was promised for last weekend, then this weekend (from Elite) hopefully it will arrive this week!
