I have been reading on the internet to see if i can take my multi-room sky digi box to the caravan cos i have bought a new dish and sat finder for the van, and all the forums are saying NO because you are paying for sky multi-room not multi location and that sky do call-backs via the connected phone lines to make sure that both boxes are connected to the same phone line.....This however can not be true because i have never had ANY sky box connected to a phone line in over 5 years so i am asuming i can take the multi-room box to the caravan and everything will be fine.....the reason no phone has been connected is because i set everything up myself and then rang sky to subscribe and i havnt had a problem...Any thoughts? |

The only way sky can tell where the receiver is is by using the telephone line, i've seen loads of mobile satelite setups using second or primary subscriptions without problems. I even gave a whole setup to a mate and they used it for months before sky twigged no-one was paying for it. |

Alan, you know that satellite in space?
Via wondrous technology, it knows you are not at home in your front room.
It automatically fries your box with a bright green laser.
Make sure the box is under the roof light in your van. With a bit of luck, the laser will pass clean through the clear plastic and not burn a hole in the roof |

Right...... the rules regarding Sky and telephone connections
When you take out a new paying contract with Sky, using a single box (of any type)..... the box should be connected to the phoneline for the first 12 months, after that 12 month period, you may disconnect the phoneline with no hassle from Sky...... there is one option that allows you to break this, and that is to pay £25 (one off payment) for a manual initialisation of the viewing card.
If you go to multi-room (two or more different boxes, one full paid subscription and 1 or more x £10 monthly payment for extra cards).... all boxes should be connected to the phoneline permanently.
Sky do check that they are connected by getting the box(es) to do a callback....... it is initiated through a signal sent to the dish and it replies through the phoneline....... there are many people who seem to get away with this, for one reason or another, but the majority will get found out, and when this happens, after a few failures, they simply charge the full amount of subscription per card, so if you have 3 cards, 3 x full subscription.
Now to Al's question....... if you are going away in your caravan, and set up your sky box to a dish, so that you can watch sky while away from home...... you won't get any issues from Sky unless you are disconnected from the phone line for a few months........
and yes some people are just plain lucky and never get caught, due to a mistake by the operator when setting up the multiroom..... so if no one has ever noticed, don't say anything to Sky, or you will find that you will soon be getting penalised for the lack of callbacks..... You can take your main box, you can take a secondary box......... you can take them all, if you have enough TV's in your caravan, to make it worth while......... the only people who get problems from doing what you are wanting to do, are those that go away for several months at a time and others who don't reconnect the box properly, when they get back home.

After the first 12 mths you can do what you like with your Sky box . FACT. sell it , move it , bin it anything . As long as it has the card allocated to that box in it Sky dont give a toss. |

I don't think any of the above are quite right. I've been using Sky with a portable satellite dish in caravans / motorhomes for some years now. If you take the box and card you use at home, I'm pretty sure you only pick up the freeview channels, not all you subsribe to. For that reason we bought a box and freeview card which stay in the motorhome. |
